Guidelines for IT Strategy
Development
DO
- Be Business led - not technology led
- Develop close co-operation between individual
users and the technical support staff
- Define the generic benefits:-
- efficiency (cost savings)
- effectiveness (higher return on assets)
- strategic advantage (business growth)
- Be explicit about expectations and proactively
manage expectations throughout the organisation
- Pay attention to the quality of your plans -
both strategic and operational
- Involve the right people in the process
employed to formulate the strategic and operating plans
- Revise and update the plan to keep it relevent
and on course
DON'T
- Delegate strategy formation in its entirety to
a consultant (either external or internal)
- Relegate the "human" issue to
"later"
- Expect the world to stay the same while you
implement your strategy
